Olympus Pen

Olympus Pen

This is a very little and nice camera produced by Olympus during the sixties. The format is half frame, meaning 18x36 mm. There were many models produced, mine is the 3.5/28mm.

I was always intrigued by the half frame format cameras although two topics were bothering me. Firstly I thought that the frame is far too small to get a decent quality for enlargements. Secondly, with a 36 frame film, you're forced to shoot 72 pictures, a lot.

My first roll proved that I was totally wrong. The lens is quite good and the results impressed me. Using it is also a pleasure. It stays into your pocket and you have plenty of opportunities to shoot.

Focusing: guessing distance and setting it on the lens. Quick focusing 2 and 5 m.

Shutters speeds: B, 25, 50, 100, 200

Apertures: 3.5, 4, 5.6, 8, 11, 16, 22

The entire back comes off for accessing the film chamber

The film counter is a necessary item that works nicely

This is a camera that I highly recommend to photo enthusiasts. Apparently the half format is being rejuvenated by the not-so-recently announced new Pentax film camera.
